Lake County General Health District releases first Bi-Annual Community Impact Report

The Lake County General Health District this week released its first Bi-Annual Community Impact Report, which is available for download at www.lcghd.org.

Officials noted that the report reflects the work completed by the district throughout 2024, adding that future reports will be released twice each year and will cover the previous six months of operations.

“The goal is to share insights with the public about what we’ve been up to, provide some useful data about our services, and celebrate our collaborative partnerships,” said Anna Wilson, marketing coordinator and public information officer.

In preparing the report, she emphasized that the need for more voices to represent the agency was recognized, which is noted on the Acknowledgements Page.

“It truly takes a village and (it) will take some time to make this report fully representative of the good work being done at Lake County General Health District,” Wilson added. “We want to do our best to make this a report that the community can use and be proud of.”

Additionally, the report highlights “incredible contributions” from community members and district employees, with data visualizations detailing some of the outcomes of their programs and services.

Wilson noted that there are just under 10 articles outlining, in part, how the district is working “to make Lake County healthy,” specifically:

• Lake County mothers donated over 6,000 ounces of breastmilk to the Lake-Geauga Women, Infants and Children Milk Bank, which will reach over 50 hospitals nationwide — the Lake-Geauga WIC Bank opened its first Mothers’ Milk Bank Depot in January 2024

• Senior cycling classes facilitated by district staff aim to improve the health and well-being of Lake County seniors

• The district conducts focus groups to gather input from residents for the 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment

The next report is set to be published in July 2025, officials confirmed.

Health Commissioner Ron Graham urges the public to rely on trusted sources, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and qualified health care professionals for accurate information on health practices.

“Just as vaccines play a critical role in preventing disease and maintaining public health, nutrition is an equally vital component of our personal health strategy,” he said. “Embracing nutrition as medicine empowers individuals to take charge of their health and makes an impactful difference at both the individual and community levels.

“By recognizing and addressing the importance of nutrition, we can cultivate a healthier society equipped to prevent chronic disease, enhance longevity, and improve overall quality of life,” Graham added. “Let us commit to a future where nutrition is viewed not merely as sustenance, but as a cornerstone of medical care and chronic disease prevention.”

The public is encouraged to join the district’s email list by visiting www.lcghd.org/newsletter/ to sign up for future reports and other information.
