“Several years ago, I started feeling really fatigued, I had done 300 episodes of a certain TV show, and never had problems with memorizing lines, the last week I kept forgetting my lines. Would go totally blank. I couldn’t tell what was going on,” he wrote. “It continued to get worse, and I would not only feel mental fog, but I’d get really tired and I would have to lay down around one or 2 o’clock in the afternoon.”
Coloma explained that he went to a physical therapist who saved his life. The therapist discovered Coloma’s heart was not beating correctly.
“my heart was beating at a resting rate of 110 bpm. This was scary because your heart only has a certain amount of beats in a lifetime and because mine was going so fast, I was cutting my lifespan down. I had no idea that my heart was beating this fast, but thanks to this physical therapist the door to healing opened up,” Coloma stated.
After a trip to urgent care and meeting with several doctors, Coloma learned he had a birth defect in his heart. The good news is that surgery fixed the problem.
“I was going through about two or three years where I thought I was dying, getting dementia, or maybe just getting old. I didn’t know what was going on,” the actor shared before revealing his journey to get back in shape following his health crisis.
Coloma ended his message with words of gratitude for the scare. “I think the biggest gift out of all of this was an appreciation for life, and friends, and for people out there who helped me get back up.❤️,” he expressed.
The comments section of Coloma’s Instagram post featured a couple of familiar soap faces reacting to his health news.
General Hospital star Finola Hughes (Anna), simply pointed out his determination, whileThe Young and the Restless star Christian Le Blanc (Michael) left several emojis.
Coloma’s former GH co-star William deVry (ex-Julian) wrote, “Damn dude! Glad you are on the mend that must have been frightening!! Sorry you had to go through that..hope the recovery to a better you is coming soon!”
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
