Ahead of the opening of Welbeck Health Partners’ new facility at Jordan Hill Business Park in Oxford in 2025, the specialists have highlighted the importance of a balanced lifestyle and regular medical check-ups.
Mr William Geitzman, a consultant urological surgeon, emphasised the importance of a balanced lifestyle for maintaining urinary tract, reproductive, and kidney health.
He said drinking plenty of water, staying fit with regular exercise, and eating a healthy diet are essential.
He also advised seeking medical advice for early diagnosis and treatment if warning signs like unexplained lumps, kidney pain, urinary infections, or blood in the urine appear.
Dr Jonathan Bowling, a consultant dermatologist, advised understanding your skin’s needs to achieve optimal skin health.
To reduce eczema flare-ups, he suggests wearing cotton clothing, avoiding soap, and maintaining cool indoor environments.
He also stressed the importance of regular check-ups to manage skin conditions effectively.
Professor Siôn Glyn-Jones, an orthopaedic surgeon, recommended regular physical activity for musculoskeletal health.
Weight-bearing exercises like walking can help to maintain bone density, while stretching and balance exercises can improve joint flexibility.
A diet rich in calcium, vitamin D, and protein supports bone and muscle health, he said, and activity should be balanced with rest to avoid injuries.
Dr Lee Lim, a consultant gynaecologist, highlighted the importance of supporting women’s health across all life stages.
She said regular health monitoring during reproductive years helps to maintain hormonal balance.
As women approach menopause, regular exercise, a balanced diet, quality sleep, and stress management ease symptoms and reduce dependence on hormone replacement therapy, she added.
Dr Rachel Hoyles, a consultant respiratory physician, spoke about the importance of protecting lung health.
She recommended avoiding smoking and recreational drugs, and limiting vaping to short-term use as a smoking cessation aid.
Regular cardiovascular exercise and keeping a healthy weight can also improve breathing, and a clean, dry, well-ventilated home, as well as limited exposure to mould and pollution, also help to prevent lung problems.
Dr Hoyles also suggested taking flu and Covid-19 vaccinations and good hygiene practices to reduce the spread of respiratory infections.
Mr James Ramsden, an ENT surgeon, advised focusing on immune health and hygiene practices to prevent ear, nose, and throat illnesses.
Maintaining a balanced diet, limiting alcohol, and regular handwashing and sanitising boost immunity and reduce the risk of colds and flu.
He also suggested consulting a specialist for recurring or serious symptoms like a painful ear with discharge, severe sinusitis, or difficulty swallowing.
Early diagnosis with advanced techniques, like camera-assisted ear exams, ensures proper treatment, he said.
