Tips to keep your lungs healthy

Quit smoking (and Avoid Secondhand Smoke): This is the single most crucial step for lung health. Smoking introduces toxins that damage your airways, increase the risk of lung cancer, and cause serious conditions like COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). Secondhand smoke poses similar dangers, so make your home and car completely smoke-free.

Breathe clean air: Pay attention to air quality reports in your area, especially during allergy or ozone-alert seasons. Reduce outdoor activities on high-pollution days. Maintain good indoor air quality through regular dusting, keeping your home smoke-free, and ensuring proper ventilation.

Exercise for lung strength: Regular exercise boosts your lung capacity and function. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity most days of the week. Activities like brisk walking, swimming, or cycling are excellent choices.

Eat a lung-healthy diet: Foods rich in antioxidants, such as fruits and vegetables, may help protect your lungs. Maintaining a healthy weight reduces strain on your respiratory system.
